I lead on aviation matters for Scottish Mountain Rescue and I am interested in the potential of hyperspectral sensors for detection of distressed persons in Search And Rescue operations. For several years I have been asking questions of sensor manufacturers and academic researchers in the hope that a practical real-time and geo-locating hyperspectral sensing system will one day be developed that can be used in SAR aircraft to detect the textiles that are commonly used in outdoor clothing (or marine lifesaving equipment). It is helpful for me to learn more about technical aspects of hyperspectral imaging and the current applications and capabilities.
