The domains of remote sensing
In this lesson, we will introduce you to the different concepts of resolution in remote sensing. When we talk about the characteristics, assets or (dis)advantages of certain remote sensing products, we can usually stick to four important types of resolutions:
Spatial Domain | Temporal Domain |
Spectral Domain | Radiometric Domain |
What kind of resolution is more important always depends on the application you are interested in. For example, a climate modeller who is interested in globally available data will care more about the temporal resolution than the spatial resolution, while habitat monitoring requires higher spatial resolution. As you can see, there is always a trade-off between the different domains.
