The domains of remote sensing

In this lesson we will introduce you to the concepts of resolution in remote sensing. When we talk about the characteristics, assets or (dis)advantages of certain remote sensing products, we can usually stick to four important types of resolutions:

1) Spatial
2) Temporal
3) Spectral
4) Radiometric

Which kind of resolution is more important always relies on the application you interested in. For example a climate modeler who is interested in globally available data will care more about the temporal resolution than the spatial resolution, while habitat monitoring requires higher spatial resolution. As you can see, there is always a trade-off between the different domains.

This video explains the first three resolution domains: spatial. temporal and spectral.
