Backscatter is data collected through the reflection of sound from the bottom surface and received by a sonar transceiver. The stronger reflected backscatter signal shows that the bottom surface has a hard structure such as coral or rock pumpkin panic. The weaker reflected backscatter signal shows that the bottom surface has a soft mud-like texture.
